Solaiman Hasan Narayanganj: The traffic jam on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway from Kanchpur Bridge in Sonargaon Upazila of Narayanganj to Toll Plaza on the Meghna Bridge is 14 km from 10 am onwards. As a result, passengers of various vehicles heading home on Eid are suffering in the heat.
From 10:30 am to 11:30 pm on the highway from Meghna Bridge Toll Plaza to Kanchpur Bridge area can be seen on the ground, long traffic jams have been created on both sides of the highway from Kanchpur to Madanpur, Tipurdi to Mograpara Crossroads and Pirojpur to Meghna Bridge Toll Plaza.
Talking to the drivers and passengers of various transports, it is learned that the traffic jam is being caused due to the movement of passengers at various bus stands, illegal parking and occupation of sidewalks on the highways and negligence in the performance of police duties.
Abdur Razzak, a Chittagong-bound Hanif Paribahan driver who left Dhaka, said traffic jams were being created at various bus stands on the highway due to parking of short-haul buses on the highway and picking up passengers and occupying the highway and constructing illegal structures.
Anwarul Islam, a passenger of a Comilla-bound passenger bus, said there was a long traffic jam on the highway but no police was present. If the police perform their duties properly, there will be no traffic jams on the highways. People going home on Eid will be able to reach home without any hindrance.
Kanchpur police OC said. Nabir Hossain, the police have been on duty on the highway since morning. Excessive traffic pressure is causing traffic jams.
