In August 2016, hundreds of thousands of Rohingya became victims of military violence in Myanmar’s Rakhine state.
Genocide was carried out to kill them.
More than one million people fled Myanmar and took refuge in Bangladesh to save their lives. In this context, Gambia filed a genocide case against Myanmar in the International Court of Justice in 2019 in collaboration with the OIC.
The first hearing of the case was also held that year.
But despite these incidents, the United States has refrained from acknowledging the genocide of violence against Myanmar’s Rohingya minority.
