Timir Banik, Moulvibazar Correspondent: A Bangladeshi was injured in BSF firing at Batuli border of Fultala union in Juri upazila of Moulvibazar district. He was rescued by BSF and taken to India. The incident took place in the early hours of Thursday (April 26), locals said. The injured have been identified as Seful Mia, 42, son of Samser Mia of Batuli village in Fultala union.
According to local and UP member sources, a number of people, including Seful Miah, son of Samser Miah of Madhya Batuli village, went near the barbed wire fence of the Indian border on Thursday morning to fetch cows. The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) fired on them at dawn as they were cutting barbed wire fences to bring the cows. Seful Mia was injured in the BSF firing. Seful Mia’s companions left him at the border and fled to Bangladesh. Border Security Force BSF detained Seful Mia and took him away. He was later handed over to Dharmanagar police by BSF. A source confirmed that Seful Mia is currently undergoing treatment at Dharmanagar Hospital in police custody.
Fultala Union Parishad UP member Imtiaz Gafur Maruf confirmed the matter, saying the BSF had warned the BGB several times before. He was later forced to shoot. He was pronounced dead at night and was rushed to a local hospital.
In this regard, Fultala Union Parishad Chairman Masuk Ahmed said that Seful Mia of Madhya Batuli village had received reports of being injured in the firing of Indian Border Security Force (BSF).
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Juri Police Station Sanjay Chakraborty confirmed the matter. Despite repeated attempts to contact the Fultala BGB camp commander (0179613563) on his mobile phone, he did not pick up the phone and could not be reached for comment.
