BNP National Standing Committee member Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku has said that the Awami League government is repeatedly fooling the people about the election.

He said not only BNP but also other opposition parties will not go to the polls under the Awami League government. No election will be fair in Bangladesh without a completely neutral government.

Mentioning that Awami League is sitting in power by force, he said, they (Awami League) have lost all faith. Elections will be held only if the demands of the people are met. I will realize the demand through movement.

He made the remarks while talking to media after visiting the shrine of martyred party president Ziaur Rahman Bir Uttam at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital along with the leaders of newly formed Chandpur district BNP on Wednesday (May 11).

He said there would be no more elections under the party government, adding that Mr. Obaidul Quader had said many things. He does not do BNP, we do BNP. And this time what we have said is that there will be no more elections under them (Awami League government). This time the election will take place only when the people win. We will go to that election.
Speaking of survival, BNP is the biggest party in Bangladesh. It can be seen that most of the people in the country are pro-BNP. There are no questions about our existence, they have questions. They have no team. They have police and batons. We have teams.

Regarding the participation in the Eleventh Parliamentary Election, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku said, “Last time we formed an alliance. The coalition decided to go to the polls. We have seen that election. Voted during the day and at night. This time EVM will give. The decision will be given by the Election Commission, the ruling party will not! Not only us, the other opposition parties have also agreed that they will not go to the polls under this government. Democracy has been re-established through movement. I will agitate again for that democracy. We will realize the demand through movement. If we don’t go, they know how acceptable the election will be, who will get international recognition – we also know.

In response to a question, he said that the last day’s vote was done at night. This time we also understand the conspiracy that they will take 70 percent by showing 90 percent vote cast in the program like themselves so that they do not have to do it at night. The people of the country also understand.
