One worker was killed when a bridge under construction collapsed in Rangamati
A construction worker was killed when a bridge under construction collapsed in Rangamati. Another 18 workers were injured. The name of the worker killed. Rafiq (32). The accident took place at 10 am on Thursday while the span of the bridge was being poured in Baradam area of Asambasti-Kaptai road in Rangamati town. The deceased worker Rafiq lived in a rented house in Ward 2 of Rangamati town and his own house is said to be in Haldakanda area of Dharmapasha area of Sunamganj.
According to the injured workers, the construction work on the LGED-funded bridge under construction in Baradam area started on Thursday morning. In this 60 to 70 workers participate in the casting work. At around 10 in the morning, the newly constructed span of the bridge collapsed and the workers fell down. At least 25 to 30 workers were injured. Immediately after the incident, other workers rescued the injured and brought them to Rangamati General Hospital. The doctor on duty in the emergency department declared the worker Md. Rafiq dead after examination.
According to Dr Shawkat Akbar Khan, RMO of Rangamati General Hospital, a total of 18 workers injured in the accident were brought to the hospital for treatment.
At that time Md. Rafiq died and the remaining 16 were admitted to the hospital and were being treated.
