About 400 expatriates have had their visas revoked for life for violating Omani laws. According to a report of the Ministry of Labor of Oman on March 7, 626 expatriates were arrested for violating labor laws in Oman last February. 391 of whom have had their visas canceled and sent back to their home countries.
According to the ministry, 230 of these sponsors were working under different owners. 319 worked in occupations other than those specified on their visas and the remaining 77 violated other laws. According to sources, most of them are Bangladeshi citizens.
Meanwhile, police in Oman have arrested several expatriates for theft and other crimes. In a statement on Tuesday, the Royal Oman Police said nine people were arrested for various crimes including theft, vandalism and smuggling. Meanwhile, the police arrested five Asian expatriates on charges of vandalism and theft in Muscat.
According to a report by Muscat Daily citing the police, the arrested are accused of vandalizing the money boxes of several commercial establishments in Muscat and stealing a large amount of money.
Besides, four people were arrested on charges of smuggling in Dhofar last Thursday. Coast Guard arrested them from Mirbat area of Dhofar. All the arrested are Arab nationals, police said.
