Japan’s top diplomat and foreign minister will visit China for the first time in a long time this week. This is his first visit to China in more than three years. This was announced by the Ministry of Defense in Tokyo on Friday.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Japanese Minister Hayashi is likely to meet Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gong during his visit on April 1 and 2. This will be the first visit to China by a Japanese foreign minister since December 2019.
Relations between Tokyo and Beijing have deteriorated in recent years. In such a situation, Japan has been wary of China’s growing military power in the region.
But in November last year, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and Chinese President Xi Jinping met privately on the sidelines of a summit in Bangkok and pledged to continue high-level contacts.
