A young man has been accused of strangling his wife to death in Durgapur, Rajshahi, for allegedly having an affair with her father-in-law.

The incident took place at Bardhanpur village of the upazila around 8:30 pm on Wednesday. The name of the accused is Golam Mostafa Chowdhury. Mostafa, 25, is the son of Abu Kalam of the same village. However, he fled after the incident.

According to locals, Juthi Khatun, daughter of Abu Hanif of Kishorepur village in the same upazila, got married to Mostafa two years ago. After marriage, one of their daughters was born. She is seven months old. But Juthi got involved in an affair with her father-in-law Abu Kalam. This relationship was going on between them for a long time.

However, Mostafa did not know the matter. A few days ago, he found out about his wife’s extramarital affair. He first hit Abu Kalam with a sharp weapon and seriously injured him. Locals rescued him in a bloody condition and admitted him to the Upazila Health Complex. Later, Mostafa went to his father-in-law’s house, strangled his wife Juthi and fled.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Durgapur Police Station Hashmat Ali said a murder case has been registered in the incident. Attempts are being made to arrest the accused.
