In Satkhira’s Patkelghata, a young woman named Tamanna Khatun and her current husband poured petrol on her husband and set him on fire. The incident took place on the bank of Kopotaksh river in Bara Kashipur area on Thursday (May 5) evening.

After rescuing the burn victims, they were first taken to Satkhira Sadar Hospital and then referred to Khulna Medical College Hospital by the on-duty doctor. From there, on the advice of doctors, they were admitted to the Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit in the capital.

Tamanna Khatun, daughter of Sheikh Abdul Haque of Bara Kashipur village under Patkelghata police station. Her current husband Farhad Hossain is the son of Abul Haque of Satkhira Sadar. The accused ex-husband Saddam Hussein is a resident of Tulsidanga village of Kalaroa police station.

According to locals, Farhad Sardar, son of Abul Haq Sardar, used to visit Tamanna’s house for a long time at the corner of old Satkhira Kabiraj Bari in Satkhira Sadar. In such a situation, Farhad got married to Tamanna on April 15. Tamanna and Saddam were married two years ago via video call on Facebook, but they never lived together. Saddam was in Malaysia. Never came to Tamanna’s house. Tamanna twice went to Saddam’s house. Tamanna divorced Saddam a year ago.

Tamanna’s father, Sheikh Abdul Haq, said the girl said Saddam had set her on fire. Saddam tried to kill my daughter. I have lodged a complaint with the police. I want his punishment.

Rumana Khatun, younger sister of housewife Tamanna, said that in the evening, sister and brother-in-law Farhad went for a walk on the bank of Kopotaksh river behind Sardar’s house.
