About 40 billion Saudi riyals (ছয় 10.6 billion) worth of food is wasted in Saudi Arabia every year. The UAE-based Gulf News reported this information quoting an official of the country.
Zayed Al Shabanat, director of the Saudi National Program for Reducing Food Loss and Waste, said some open buffets are a cause of food waste in Saudi Arabia.
Shabanat told Al Arabiya TV that a study by the Saudi Grain Organization (SAGO) found that about 40 billion riyals worth of food is wasted in Saudi Arabia every year.
According to the director of the Saudi National Program for Reducing Food Loss and Waste, community awareness is key to solving this problem.
Despite the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, there is no shortage of wheat in Saudi Arabia, said Zayed Al Shabanat.
He said SAGO imports wheat from different countries. So Saudi position is balanced.
