Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said, there is still a lot of work left as a minister. I personally have no interest in going to such a big position (President) leaving the responsibilities incomplete. No one even proposed to me.

Obaidul Quader said this at a press conference on contemporary issues at the Secretariat today.

Presidential election on February 18. But the ruling Awami League does not see any trouble – Obaidul Quader said, “Is there ever any trouble about the presidential election?” Don’t worry, we will announce our candidature on time. It will be as per rules. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is the head of the parliamentary party. He is the one thinking about it. You will know in time.

Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said, “I don’t want to go into unnecessary debate about this name.”

Hero Alam complained that the government had lost him by conspiracy, he said, “I told how many votes were cast in which area.” I have also said that people are less interested in by-elections. Still, Gaibandha polled 38 percent; no less Thakurgaon polled 45 percent. There was a Workers Party candidate. I don’t want to get into an unnecessary debate about the name Bogra is talking about. Regarding the movement of BNP, Obaidul Quader said, ‘The final stage of the movement is mass uprising, red card. He said, ‘It is not what they say, but what the people of the country think is the big thing. They (people) are not getting involved in their (BNP) movement. Their activists are agitating. So this movement has no effect. It will fail, they have lost.’

Criticizing BNP, he further said, ‘They lobbied to bring the ban, but to no avail. Donald Lu would come and speak, give them a message of hope, that didn’t happen either. So now there is no hope?’

Quoting a song line from the movie ‘Amanush’, Quader said, ‘Bednar Baluchare Ko Asaye Binhiyachi Ghar – this is Fakhrul Sahib’s condition now.’

In response to a question, he said, ‘We want the election to be competitive. We don’t want to score in an empty field. This should not happen, it is not good for democracy.’
