Bagerhat Correspondent: In the third phase of the initiative taken by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to rehabilitate homeless and landless people in the country, 32,904 families got permanent address. The joy of getting a house with land just before Eid is now on the faces of these people.

It can be seen on the ground that these modern houses have been built in a beautiful environment on the last boundary of the municipality and on the banks of International Mongla-Ghashiakhali Bangabandhu Channel between Chandpai and Burirdanga Union of the upazila. Looking at the environment there, one would think it would be a resort.

There are two rooms in each house in 2% of the space, along with kitchen and toilet. There is an open space around each house, where the beneficiaries can plant vegetables if they want.

On Tuesday (April 28), Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina handed over the documents including ownership of the houses to these families. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the program in the morning through video conference from Ganobhaban. Heard the feelings of these poor people who have benefited from getting a house. In the light of this, 140 families in Mongla upazila of Bagerhat were handed over their house documents including land at the Upazila Officers Club.

On the occasion of Mujib Year, one lakh 23 thousand 244 homeless and landless families have been given houses in the first and second phase from the Prime Minister’s Asylum Project-2. After handing over the house this time, a total of 1.5 lakh homeless families became the owners of the house gifted by the government. A total of 9 lakh homeless families will be given houses of this project of the Prime Minister in phases.

These houses of the shelter project are being constructed by vacating the government khas land or the occupied land. The government is buying land where there is no such land. A large amount of evicted government khas land has already been recovered in eight divisions of the country.

Mongla Upazila Nirbahi Officer Kamlesh Majumder presided over the function. Upazila Parishad Chairman Md. Abu Taher Hawlader, Vice-Chairman Md. Iqbal Hossain, Women Vice-Chairman Mrs. Kamrunnahar Hai, Upazila Project Implementation Officer Md. Zafar Rana, Mongla Port Municipality President of Awami League Sheikh Muktijoddha Sheikh AH Rahman, Mongla Thana Officer in Charge Mohammad Monirul Islam and others. Also present were officials of various departments of the sub-district, employees, people’s representatives, heroic freedom fighters, teachers and local dignitaries.

Under the Asrayan-2 project of the Prime Minister’s Office, under the overall supervision of the Ministry of Land and the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, these houses and houses with land were provided. Mongla sub-district administration organized the handover ceremony with land in the room of Mongla sub-district council officers club. On the occasion of Mujib’s year, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was happy to get a house with land.

The landless families are overjoyed to be able to move into a pucca house with the land provided by the government. Widows, husbands abandoned, disabled, destitute and helpless landless have been provided with two hundred acres of land. They hope to enjoy the day of Eid-ul-Fitr by fasting in a new house in Ramadan. In addition to the toilets, hygienic toilets have been constructed with electricity connection, installation of deep tube wells for clean water. However, they demanded the construction of an educational institution for education and a mosque for prayers.

Mongla Upazila Project Implementation Officer Md. Zafar Rana said electricity and water have been provided for those who will be staying here. In order to protect the environment, one and a half thousand palm trees have been planted in the land of these houses to prevent lightning and erosion. At the same time, various trees including banana trees have been planted. This residential area built on the banks of the river Mongla will be a very pleasant environment.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer Kamlesh Majumder has worked tirelessly to complete the construction of the houses. He said that these houses have been built in a very beautiful environment. Quality materials have been used in the construction of houses, so that they are durable. Beneficiaries will be able to celebrate Eid in this new house.
