Sirajganj District Representative: A garment factory has been set up by renting a government house at Nandina Madhu High School in Kamarkhand upazila of Sirajganj. As a result, students are at risk due to the deteriorating learning environment and the influx of outsiders.

It has been seen on the spot that the Department of Education Engineering constructed a new academic building at Nandina Madhu High School in the fiscal year 2019-20. Due to which three rooms of the half-finished houses used earlier have been rented to the local influential Abdul Rahman Bablu. He is installing swing machines in those rooms and employing some manpower to make different types of clothes.

An agreement has also been reached between the two parties regarding the rent of school rooms. On December 1, 2021, the president and headmaster of the school’s managing committee rented three rooms to accommodate tailors for Rs 3,000 per month and took Rs 6,000 as security. . However, the agreement did not specify why the school authorities rented the school rooms.

When contacted by mobile school president Kamrul Hasan Lavlu about the matter, he said that the abandoned rooms have been rented following the government policy. The work has been done with the permission of the managing committee of the school. If there is any problem in this, they should inform me or the managing committee.

Abdul Rahman Bablu, who rented the school rooms, said, “I rented the rooms in December. Some people are accusing me of conspiring against me. The headmaster of the school has already given me a notice to remove my belongings from here within two months.”

Abdur Rashid, a local from the area, said that 6 children of my family study in this school. People gather all the time in the factory, which causes problems for boys and girls. Many times when my sons and daughters pass in front of the factory, I hear a lot of insults. He told the reporter that he would get complaints against the factory after hearing from almost all the parents and added that if the factory is outside the school area then we will not have any problem.

The headmaster of the school, Anwar Hossain, said, “I have already verbally and in writing asked to remove the garments from here.”

Upazila Secondary Education Officer Sakman Ali said, “I have heard the matter and talked to the headmaster of the school. He said that the managing committee has rented out the abandoned rooms.” However, if the learning environment is ruined due to this, then if anyone complains, we will definitely take action. Kamarkhand Upazila Nirbahi Officer Marina Sultana said that if the managing committee wanted, the abandoned building could be rented out to someone.
