The members of Customs’ customs detectives recovered five gold bars from the stomach of a passenger at the Benapole check post immigration in Jessore. At that time the passenger was arrested. The passenger was detained around 9am on Monday while entering India.
The detained Ibrahim Bepari (35) is the son of Abdul Latif of Charkewar village of Munshiganj district headquarters.
Sheikh Arefin Zahedi, Assistant Director of Benapole Custom House Customs Office, said, ‘Ibrahim was detained and interrogated on a secret tip. At first he denied the gold. Later, he was taken to a clinic in the local Benapole market and his abdomen was x-rayed and five gold bars were found. Its weight is 583 grams. Its market value is around 46 lakh taka.
He further said, ‘The arrested passenger will be handed over to Benapole Port Police Station. The bars will be deposited in the Treasury Branch of Customs.’
