The students of Jahangirnagar University blocked the highway in Savar and demanded the release of Prothom Alo’s own reporter Shamsuzzaman Shams and repeal of the Digital Security Act.

They blocked the main gate of Jahangirnagar on the Dhaka-Aricha highway at around 3 pm on Friday.

When the students blocked the Dhaka-bound lane of the road, the university authorities brought them to the Aricha-bound lane. As of the time of writing this report, traffic on the Aricha-bound lane is closed.

Earlier, students took out a procession from Morad Chattar in Jahangirnagar. Later they came to the road and sat down. At that time, they demanded the release of journalist Shamsuzzaman in the protest movement.

At least 500 policemen are present at the scene. There are also officers of RAB and various intelligence agencies.
