Two international flights to Muscat and Dubai have been canceled after a bird entered the engine at Chittagong Shah Amanat Airport.
Bangladesh Biman flight BG 121 from Chittagong to Muscat with 254 passengers and Fly Dubai Airways flight to Dubai with 180 passengers were cancelled.
Airlines authorities canceled these flights from Chittagong Shah Amanat Airport around 9:30 pm on Thursday.
According to the airport sources, this situation was created when the bird entered the engine during the landing of the aircraft at Shah Amanat International Airport.
Wing Commander Farhad Hossain, director of Chittagong Shah Amanat International Airport, confirmed the cancellation of the flight and said, ‘The Fly Dubai flight landed at around 8:30 pm. The return flight was scheduled to leave for Dubai at around 9:30 pm with 180 passengers on board. But realizing that there is something inside the engine, the pilot informed the airport authorities.
“There is something in the engine and it is a technical problem so they canceled the flight out of concern for safety and security of the passengers,” he added.
“Since there is no engineering and technical facility at the airport, an engineering team from Dubai will come and look into the matter in the morning,” said the airport director.
He said that 180 passengers of the flight have been kept in different hotels by Fly Dubai authorities.
Bangladesh Biman flight to Muscat has been canceled for the same reason. Engineers will come tomorrow morning to check the engine, he said.
