The government has given the opportunity of dual citizenship to Bangladeshis who have citizenship of 44 more countries.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina chaired the cabinet meeting on Monday at her office and approved the proposal to issue SRO to provide dual citizenship benefits to Bangladeshis holding citizenship of different countries.

After the meeting, in a briefing at the Secretariat, Cabinet Secretary Md. Mahbub Hossain said, ‘Until now, Bangladeshis who have the citizenship of 57 countries including all European countries, USA, Canada and Australia could take dual citizenship.

‘Bangladeshis with citizenship living in other countries of the world want to retain their citizenship. For this, the cabinet has approved the issue of taking dual citizenship of Bangladeshi citizens living in 44 other countries. As a result, Bangladeshis living in a total of 101 countries can now take dual citizenship.

The cabinet secretary said that Bangladeshis living in 44 countries including Egypt, Kenya, Brazil, Colombia, Argentina, Cuba, Haiti have been given the opportunity of dual citizenship.
