Noakhali Correspondent: Alhaj Zafar Ahmed Chowdhury, the senior joint convener of the newly announced committee No. 1, has resigned from the convening committee of Senbagh Upazila Awami League in Noakhali, blaming the failure of the local MP. He is a three-time former president of Upazila Awami League and now chairman of Upazila Parishad.

He announced his resignation live on his Facebook page around 9pm on Wednesday. There are rumors that more than one leader may resign from the committee.

It is learned that the leader submitted his resignation letter to the convener of the district Awami League on Thursday (March 26) morning. Earlier on Tuesday evening, a letter signed by district Awami League convener Principal AHM Khairul Anam Chowdhury Selim, joint conveners Advocate Shihab Uddin Shahin and Sahidullah Khan Sohel approved the 63-member convening committee of Senbagh Upazila Awami League.

It is learned that Morshed Alam, MP of Noakhali-2 (Senbagh-Sonaimuri) partial constituency has been convened in the announced committee. Panjan has been made the joint convener. They are Jafar Ahmed Chowdhury, three-time former president of Upazila Awami League, Lion Jahangir Alam Manik, former secretary for industry and commerce of Noakhali district Awami League, Bahar Ulya Bahar, former general secretary of Senbagh Upazila Awami League, Shawkat Hossain Kanan, former convener of Upazila Awami League conference preparation council. And Abu Jafar Tipu, former general secretary of Senbagh Upazila Awami League. Besides, 63 people have been made members of the committee.

Asked about this, Senbagh Upazila Chairman and former Upazila Awami League president Alhaj Zafar Ahmed confirmed his resignation.

He complained live that local MP Morshed Alam did not know the leader, he could not give time and he did not even try. Due to his failure, many people have entered the house in Senbagh as the good people of the party are now devalued and honest people are being devalued. In the Senbagh UP election, no one except a party candidate could be elected as chairman. We have decided. We want sacrificial leaders of the party, he has agreed with us. Later, he personally lobbied with his due letter and nominated some people. As the nomination was not correct, not even a chairman could be elected. In our mayoral election, Prime Minister Abu Jafar nominated Tipu. It was seen that some people, including Uni, opposed the party and elected an independent candidate.

He further complained that the image of our party has been damaged a lot. Which we can’t do makeup. Despite so many failures, a committee has been announced from the district Awami League tomorrow. The MP has been convened in this committee. As far as we know, people from one upazila can be MP in another upazila. However, people from one upazila can be the convener or president of Awami League in another upazila. I did not know it. Making hawlat from other upazilas means that Senbagh is not qualified to lead the Awami League. If there were qualifications. Exclude me. I’m being insulted. Aroto Senbagh has 290,000 voters. Does not a single person qualify to be the convener of Awami League?

Jafar Ahmad Chowdhury says, after bringing people from other upazilas and making them conveners of Senbagh upazila, I think those of us who do Awami League in Senbagh, today we are ashamed. People are insulting us. Since there are no qualified people in Senbagh, he has brought people from other upazilas and made them conveners today. Where I was elected president of Upazila Awami League three times in a row by councilor vote. The committee that met yesterday may not keep me or exclude me. I have no objection. But instead of doing that, the committee is announcing me as the 1st joint convener of the convening committee. It makes me feel ashamed. Because how can a person be the 1st joint convener after being president three times. I don’t think that’s right. Therefore, he resigned from the post of joint convener of Upazila Awami League No.1.

Addressing the Prime Minister, he said that under the leadership of the Prime Minister, massive development, smooth running of the party and the country. The Prime Minister has such a reputation. But sad to say why he is so reluctant about Senbagh. Why we don’t get justice, why we don’t get good leadership.

Noakhali-2 (Senbagh-Sonaimuri) partial MP Morshed Alam was called more than once to know about the allegation but he did not receive the call.

Advocate Shihab Uddin Shahin, senior joint convener of Noakhali district Awami League, said, “I saw the video of Zafar Ahmad Chowdhury announcing his resignation from the newly announced committee post on live.” The committee has been formed in accordance with the party constitution. We have not received any written resignation letter so far. Upon receipt of the written resignation letter, further action will be taken as per the constitution.
