Bagerhat Correspondent: There have been allegations of irregularities and mismanagement in the construction of a new five-storey building of Morelganj Government Girls High School in Bagerhat.

Messrs. Nahid & Mizan Enterprise got the job under the supervision of Bagerhat District Executive Engineering Department. From the very beginning, the contracting company started working with low quality bricks, sand and old rods but the concerned engineer did not stop it.

Residents of the area expressed their displeasure and said that although the government had allocated sufficient amount of money to carry out the work in accordance with the standards and appointed the concerned officials for supervision, the government rules and regulations were not taken into consideration in the case of this project. Water cure was not given after pillaring and plastering. As a result, large cracks have appeared in the pillars. Despite the busiest important road of Morelganj Bazar on three sides of the building, construction work is going on without any protector. In the meantime, Bachchu, the proprietor of the Paradise Library, along with a pedestrian, was rescued for a short time after several heavy platesheets on the road. Often bricks, sand and cement fall on the road. Last Saturday (April 23) at around 1 pm, a group of bamboos used on the roof of a five-storey building under construction fell on the tin rice of ‘Madhur Canteen’ shop on the side of the road and damaged several items of tin rice and the shop. He. The locals were immediately outraged over such irresponsible actions of the authorities. Work is stopped. When an unfortunate situation arose, the police came to the spot and brought the situation under control. The locals claim that no work will be allowed until proper protectors and compensation are received. However, after the work order expired, the contractor could not complete the work yet.

Md. Azizul Islam, owner of the contractor Messrs. Nahid & Mizan Enterprise, did not pick up the phone when contacted on his mobile phone. However, the local manager Abu Alam said, “I have been here for a few days now. It may have been loose in yesterday’s Kalbaishakhi storm. The bamboo has fallen down due to negligence during work.” However, he said he did not know anything about the protector.
Bagerhat District Executive Engineer Md. Naf, who is in charge of supervision, did not do so, but action will be taken after investigation.
