He said a passenger from Dubai landed at Shahjalal Airport in the middle of the night on Thursday (April 26) on an Emirates Airlines flight EK-564. Earlier, we had secret information that the passenger was bringing illegal phones and gold ornaments from Dubai.
The passenger was later detained at the airport. A search of his luggage turned up 263 iPhones, Samsung Note 20s, Google Pixels and more than 350 mobile phones. Besides, about 1 kg 600 grams of gold ornaments and gold bars were found in the possession of the passenger. These illegal goods were later seized.
He said the sophisticated mobile phones and gold ornaments and gold bars have an estimated market value of around Tk 6 crore. He said two cases would be filed against the passenger under customs law and criminal law.
Meanwhile, on a flight of US Bangla Airlines at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport today, Dhaka Custom House recovered a gold bar weighing 8 kg 120 g in dirty polythene. The gold was recovered from a BS-347 flight from Sharjah on Saturday (April 30).
Dhaka Custom House Deputy Commissioner (Preventive) said. Sanwarul Kabir said a flight arrives in Dhaka from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the morning. Gold bars were recovered from the dumped polythene. Two suspects have been arrested in the incident.
