A man named Naib Ullah (55) was killed and at least 15 others were injured in a series of clashes between two villagers in Nasirnagar upazila of Brahmanbaria over the cutting of paddy in a bill and lifting it in a power tiller.

The clash took place between Shrighar and Ashurail in Burishwar union of the upazila on the east bank of Langan river from noon on Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Naib Ullah, son of Shanu Ullah of Srighar village. However, the names of the injured were not immediately known.

According to local and police sources, Jalal Mia of Ashurail village in Burishwar union cut paddy from the beel and brought it to Anitpur char by boat. Junaid Miah of Srighar village hired a power tiller (small tractor) to fetch paddy from Jalal’s house for 500 rupees. However, after a while, Junaid suddenly informed that he would not go. There was an argument between the two. At one stage there were clashes between the two.

When the news spread to the two villages, people on both sides clashed with local weapons. Police later went to the spot and brought the situation under control. One person, Naib Ullah, 55, was killed and 15 others, including women and children, were injured in the clashes.

Nasirnagar Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Habibullah Sarkar said one person was killed in a clash between the two sides over taking rice husks home from Haor. Police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
